Occupation: Interventionist and Educational Consultant at Apples of Gold Center for Learning
Family/Background: My husband, an Iowa native, and I have been married for 23 years and are the parents of Trent and Blake. When we learned that my husband received a promotion and was being relocated to the Des Moines area in 2019, I immediately began researching communities that would best support our family's needs, most importantly the boys' education. After a thorough search, we narrowed it down to two school districts. Together with the boys, we visited and interviewed both, and we wholeheartedly agreed that Bondurant-Farrar was where we belonged.
Now, after six years of living here, we still believe we made the right choice. The community is welcoming and supportive, and BFCSD offers a solid education, nurturing environment and tremendous opportunities. The Guthries are proud to be Blue Jays! Trent graduated from BFHS in 2023 and is currently a junior at the University of Iowa. Blake is a senior and will graduate in the spring. Our family is committed to this community and want to help make it a place that others are proud to call home as well.
Involvement: I quickly became engaged with the school community, initially as a substitute teacher and volunteer, then as a passionate supporter of their athletic programs and teams, a role I continue today. I also joined several key committees, including the Athletic Booster Club, the School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC), and the After-Prom Committee. Additionally, I contributed to the Safe & Supportive Schools Committee and the Bondurant-Farrar Education Foundation.
Accomplishments: My most significant accomplishment, now and aways, is raising two extraordinary young men. The privilege of being a full-time mother to them has been the most rewarding of my life. No professional accolade or volunteer recognition compares to the fulfillment and pride I have in seeing them grow into remarkable men.

What motivates you to serve? While academics are of utmost importance, we must also prioritize creating a safe, welcoming, and forward-thinking environment for current and future students, as well as their families. We can all agree that our community is constantly evolving, and we should never set aside the core values of integrity, equity, and respect; these are vital to our schools regardless of what political climate, ego, or the loudest voices try to dictate.
According to U.S. News & World Report, Bondurant-Farrar ranks in the middle of Des Moines-area schools. More than 20 schools are ahead of us. I believe this is a wake-up call for our School Board to work with educators, parents and students to identify why we are falling short and determine necessary solutions, increase our expectations, improve outcomes, and redefine our school and community culture. BFCSD is better than average, and we need to prove this to the world.
I am passionate about understanding and addressing the educational and emotional needs of ALL students. My goal is to discover solutions that help every student succeed in and out of the classroom. As a School Board member, I will ensure our students, families, and staff are truly heard. I am committed to implementing changes with the best interest of all individuals in mind, and represent the community through open dialogue, collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
