With the successful passage of the September 2020 referendum, construction is underway on Bondurant-Farrar’s fifth school, a junior high building that will help accommodate the district’s increasing student enrollment.

On January 11 the district’s Board of Education approved the selection of Jeremiah Ostrem as principal of the new Bondurant-Farrar Junior High. Ostrem is currently serving as the assistant principal at the district’s high school, a position he has held since 2017. Prior to his current role, Ostrem was the assistant principal and activities director at the district’s middle school from 2013-2017.

With the building anticipated to open in the fall of 2022, Ostrem will lead planning efforts in the staffing and structure of the school to ensure a smooth transition. Ostrem will continue as the assistant principal at Bondurant-Farrar High School through the 2021-22 school year and will assume full-time duties as principal of the new building in the summer of 2022.

Ostrem’s skills and experiences will help him step into the role of principal and it is important for him to be involved in the beginning stages of the planning process, notes Superintendent Rich Powers. “Mr. Ostrem’s passion for supporting students and staff, along with his knowledge of our community, will ensure the best possible transition into our newest building,” Powers said.

Ostrem is a graduate of Central College, holds his Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Iowa, and is currently enrolled in UNI’s Superintendency Program. Prior to Bondurant-Farrar, Ostrem taught at Central Community Schools in Elkader for five years. Jeremiah and his wife, Melissa, reside in Bondurant with their sons, Eli (6) and Isaiah (4).
