Updates Regarding Current and Proposed School Calendars

Date: January 27, 2021

Snow Days and the Current 2020-21 Calendar:

As of today, January 27, the district has used 2 snow days. Our current calendar indicates the need to begin making up school days after 3 cancellations. Due to this year’s unique circumstances, the State is allowing virtual learning in place of on-site learning during times of inclement weather.

If the third snow day is utilized, and additional weather cancellations become necessary, the district may implement virtual learning. To allow our staff to be prepared for this possibility, virtual learning would not be implemented prior to February 12. This decision would be communicated via phone, email, and text, with as much notice as possible.

To better prepare for virtual learning in the event of weather, we want to ensure students have access to a technology device. If you do not have a device at home or a device you’ve already checked out from the district, then please contact our technology team via email at helpdesk@bfschools.org. The Bondurant Community Library has hotspots available for families to check out, free of charge. The library can be contacted at 515-967-4790.

Seeking Input on Proposed 2021-22 Calendar:proposed 2021-22 school calenda

The proposed 2021-22 school calendar (click to view) was drafted with input from administrative and building leadership teams, and has been shared with our school board and staff. The district is now seeking community input regarding the proposed calendar.

The calendar is essentially in line with recent calendars, with the following exceptions:

  • Fall conferences - October 29 is a no school day and November 1 is professional development
  • Winter Break - January 3 is a professional development, with students returning on January 4
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a no school day for students
  • Spring Conferences - March 11 is a no school day and leads into Spring Break

Feedback regarding the proposed calendar must be received by the end of the day on February 2, 2021. Comments will be shared with the board in advance of the public hearing which is taking place during the regular board meeting on Monday, February 8 at 5:00pm.
