Strategic Shift of Assistant Principals in 2022-23

April 29, 2022

With a grade reconfiguration planned for next school year, the district will also shift some of its current leaders in an effort to best support students and staff.

Kevin VanderLinden will continue as assistant principal, but transition from Anderson Elementary to the intermediate school (current middle school) where he will serve students in grades 5 and 6 in the fall. Under his leadership, Anderson Elementary has been recognized by the State of Iowa as a model PBIS/MTSS program. Mr. VanderLinden’s experience will be essential as the intermediate school welcomes a significant number of new staff. Additionally, his strong relationships with current 4th-5th graders will help to ensure a smooth transition. This opportunity is due to Mr. Cline’s career advancement outside of the district.

Similarly, Joannie Sanger will continue as assistant principal, transitioning from Morris Elementary to Anderson Elementary next school year. Mrs. Sanger’s high energy, passion for PBIS, and strong knowledge of instructional practices will be instrumental as the district prepares to move a portion of 2nd grade to Anderson. Mrs. Sanger is very familiar with the building, having been a student favorite as a teacher there earlier in her career. Her proven ability to build strong relationships will be a significant asset as Anderson’s grade levels change.

These shifts create an assistant principal vacancy at Morris Elementary next school year. The district is accepting applications for this role through May 4, 2022.
