Little Women - The Broadway Musical logoApril 10, 2023

The Bondurant-Farrar Speech and Drama department is proud to present their spring musical, Little Women, to community members in two upcoming performances. The show, based on a classic novel, captures the story of sisters as they come of age and take on the world together.

The musical is being directed by Kaitlyn Vasey, who also serves as a high school English teacher and speech coach at Bondurant-Farrar. Supporting her is music director Coren Hucke, who is also the high school vocal music instructor. The duo has embarked on their first musical production and they are excited to showcase the talented cast and crew in these upcoming performances.

Join us on the evenings of Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15 for their 7pm productions at the Bondurant-Farrar High School’s auditorium located at 1000 Grant Street N in Bondurant. Doors open at 6:30pm both nights. Tickets can be purchased at the door with a debit/credit card or in advance online through Ticket Spicket. Lower-level tickets are $10 and upper-level tickets are $5. Cash is not accepted.

Questions and Answers with Director Vasey:

Why should someone plan to attend?

Little Women is the musical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's beloved novel. It follows the March sisters as they take on adversities and coming of age. It is a heartwarming story about family and empowers young women to be whatever they want to be.

How many students are involved in the production?

Between cast and crew, we have 50 students involved (not including the students who build the set). Our cast has been rehearsing since January 9 and has spent countless hours practicing. Our crew has been putting in a ton of work to get lights, costumes, and the backstage ready. Our costume crew is creating a few of the pieces from scratch.

You mentioned the set. Have students been involved in that?

Kyle Hammes and the students of his first-hour construction class built our entire set - including the platform, stairs, and scene swivels. They started at the beginning of the semester and finished a little after spring break. They did an incredible job, and we will be able to use this set for future shows as well!

What else would you like to share?

We are so thankful for the support of our parent volunteers - Wendy Aanonson, Jen and Bert Keeler, Kara Dare, and the rest of the Bondurant-Farrar Fine Arts Boosters! This group continues to support our programs in amazing ways and we’re so grateful for their efforts.
