Teacher Academy Students Visit 3rd Grade

3rd grade student raises his hand as high schooler reads to the classroomDecember 22, 2023

This week, our high school's Teacher Academy students had an amazing time visiting third-grade classrooms for a two-day session centered around the book "How to Catch a Snowman." They didn't just read the book; they also designed lesson plans and activities related to it.

The Teacher Academy course provides students with hands-on, real-world experiences within the educational field, allowing them to apply what they have learned in class to practical teaching situations. By engaging students, managing classes, and different ways of teaching, these experiences help them understand the challenges and rewards of teaching, which is super helpful for deciding on future careers.

For this two-day event, Teacher Academy students collaborated with district-level teachers to plan and run lessons. They focused on teaching third-graders how to describe characters in stories and think about different solutions to problems. These experiences are a big deal for Teacher Academy students.

The third-graders were not only engaged in the activities but also thrilled to spend time with the older students. Seeing the high schoolers as mentors and friends made the learning experience even more special for the younger ones.
