  • Chris Norton Shares His Inspiring Journey

Chris Norton speaking to students during Q&A sessionOn October 7, over 550 students from area junior highs and high schools joined BFCSD 2010 graduate Chris Norton for a viewing of his 7 YARDS documentary followed by an opportunity for students to ask questions through an informal Q and A session.

Norton, who suffered a spinal cord injury while playing college football and was given a 3% chance of ever moving anything below his neck, spoke to students about perseverance, defying expectations, and the power of a positive attitude. By sharing his story, Norton hopes to inspire students to persevere through their own challenges they may be facing in their lives.

A special thank you to Drake University, Character Counts, and Prairie Meadows for making this unique, inspiring event with Chris Norton possible.

  • Family & Student Support Offerings

Call 800-327-4692 to your SAPRecognized annually on October 10, World Mental Health Day is a chance to talk about mental health and remind individuals of ways to get help if you or someone you know is struggling.

Bondurant-Farrar provides counseling support and school-based therapy for students. Additionally, our PK-12 team has put together a list of external resources and contacts to help connect families and individuals to other available offerings, which is viewable at https://www.bfschools.org/Page/1266.

Bondurant-Farrar partners with Employee and Family Resources (EFR) to provide additional supports for students through their Student Assistance Program (SAP). SAP is designed to help students, families, and schools manage the impact a wide variety of personal and family problems can have on student behavior and achievement. Services include telephonic consultation, virtual counseling sessions, and referrals to community resources, if needed. The program is available to help BFCSD students and their immediate family members.

Globe Geography, 3rd Grade
  • 3rd Grade Students Explore the Globe

Globe craft projects are used in 3rd grade classrooms to illustrate Earth’s shape, show where we live, and learn about where other regions of the world are located. Through this project, students learn about the vastness of Earth beyond their neighborhood or our town, and see that they are part of a larger world. This project is typically completed over a span of 3-4 days and students become very proud of their work.

Using an inflated balloon, students apply glue soaked paper towels to begin creating a textured shell for their globe. The following day, students add another layer to their shell using the same method but this time with blue tissue paper. While these dry, students color and cut out paper continents and ocean labels. During our visit on October 6, several 3rd grade classrooms were in the final stage of the globe project - placing continents and oceans on their globes. Students were so proud of their finished globes and excited to see their creations displayed from the ceiling of their classrooms.

  • Input Needed in Upcoming Community Survey

Community survey October 17 - We value feedback! Families and other district stakeholders will soon have an opportunity to complete a survey to tell us about their experience with the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District.

To ensure we continue to provide high quality, comprehensive learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and to prepare them for success after high school, we need feedback from our school community.

The survey will begin on Monday, October 17, and close on Monday, November 7. Families will receive the survey through a district email that gives access to the survey link. It will also be available on the district website beginning October 17. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses.
