  • A Thriving Community & School District

It’s no surprise to hear that our school district is growing. But you might be wondering how much exactly and what we are doing as a district to best manage this growth. This is the first episode of a new video series we are launching to help inform community members of BFCSD news, initiatives, and events.

  • Community Members Meet to Develop Shared Vision for Graduates

The district is partnering with The Center and our local Heartland AEA to develop our Portrait of a Graduate profile, unique to our community and school, that ensures students are prepared for success after graduation. Our Portrait of a Graduate will be a collective vision that articulates our community’s aspirations for every Bondurant-Farrar student.

On December 13, over 40 members of the design team, consisting of families, students, staff, and representatives from local organizations and businesses, met to begin this process. The design team will meet monthly throughout the remainder of the school year to have discussions and participate in activities centered around essential skills and mindsets our students need to thrive, now and in the future. From these meetings, the group will then gather feedback from a variety of groups to determine a shared vision that will drive the creation of our district’s Portrait of a Graduate.

  • Anderson’s Parent University Event

On December 6, Anderson Elementary hosted their first-ever Parent University event, welcoming many students and parents/guardians for a night of learning and fun. While students participated in winter-themed STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math) activities with their teachers and principals, adults had an opportunity to attend informational sessions of their choice. Parent/guardian sessions ranged from learning how to support your child’s social and emotional needs to a drop-in opportunity to chat with Superintendent Rich Powers about the work going on within our schools and ask questions.

For those with children in grades 5-6, the intermediate school plans to host a similar event in late-January or early-February. Information will be communicated with families via email.

  • Results of Community Needs Assessment Survey

Earlier this fall, we sought feedback from district stakeholders with the purpose of gaining a better understanding of how to make the Bondurant-Farrar schooling experience as positive and impactful as possible. The Community Needs Assessment Survey is conducted every five years, and results are used to help identify perceived strengths and opportunities for improvement.

The 2022 survey was offered for a three-week period, opening in mid-October and closing in early November. During that time, 476 community stakeholders completed the survey. An overview and summary of the results (click to view) was shared with board members in advance of their December 12 meeting.

Thank you to all who took time to participate. We appreciate your feedback.
