  • Board Highlights from the May 8 Meeting

Electronic agendas and supporting documents can be viewed at least 24 hours in advance of each meeting. The full agenda of the March 27, 2023 board meeting can be viewed here (Board Docs).

    Meeting Highlights:

    • Chad Carlson provided an update on the district’s emergency preparedness efforts, including CPR and Stop-the-Bleed training, active shooter drills, and updated flip charts for classrooms.
    • Thad Long, representing SVPA Architects, discussed updated draft concepts outlining the placement of the district’s next school building. It was noted that drafts are simply early concepts and may not represent the final version in any way.

    • Reviewed and approved student fees for the 2023-24 school year. Approved fees for next year can be found here.
    • Discussed recent change in state law allowing districts to hold a bond election only once per year, on the November general election date.

  • Join Us In Honoring This Year's Retirees

We would like to invite members of our school community to help us celebrate the careers of Karen Miller, Julie Nash, and Bonita Wiley at a retirement reception on Thursday, May 18 from 4:00-5:00 pm in the Anderson Elementary library. Visitors are asked to enter the building, located at 400 Garfield Street in Bondurant, on the north side of the building.

  • 8th Grade Students Explore Personal Finance

As part of their financial literacy class, 8th grade students had the opportunity to participate in activities at Junior Achievement of Central Iowa which allowed them to explore 14 different areas of budgeting, ranging from groceries to transportation to vacations to eating out.

With the help of volunteers, students learned about each of these areas and were able to generate a budget based on an individual life scenario. This experience was truly eye-opening for them, as they realized just how expensive certain items and services can be. The program has been a fantastic addition to classroom learning and has helped students to better understand financial literacy.

The district’s partnership with Junior Achievement has been an excellent addition to classroom learning and this example is part of a larger, K-12 approach to financial literacy. Other activities include BizTown for 6th graders, and volunteers visiting K-5 classrooms to discuss work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship.

  • Help Keep Our Schools Safe

School safety is a top priority at Bondurant-Farrar. Many precautions are in place and we continue to enhance and improve our safety and security protocols to ensure a safe, positive environment for all. An important piece in our proactive approach is encouraging students, families, and community members to report past, present, and possible threats to and within our school community.

You may utilize several resources to report suspicious activity, including law enforcement, school district, and statewide reporting tools. Creating a safe learning environment is our highest priority, and it starts with early detection of potential threats. See something, say something, do something!
